Eileen: You said tomorrow..... then nothing already.
Me: Really ah? wow... I didn't know I said anything at all...

I was suppose to say something however, The movie caught my attention and made me forget what I wanted to say...

10 dirty little secrets you should know about working in IT

10.) The pay in IT is good compared to many other professions, but since they pay you well, they often think they own you

Although the pay for IT professionals is not as great as it was before the dot-com flameout and the IT backlash in 2001-2002, IT workers still make very good money compared to many other professions (at least the ones that require only an associate’s or bachelor’s degree). And there is every reason to believe that IT pros will continue to be in demand in the coming decades, as technology continues to play a growing role in business and society. However, because IT professionals can be so expensive, some companies treat IT pros like they own them. If you have to answer a tech call at 9:00 PM because someone is working late, you hear, “That’s just part of the job.” If you need to work six hours on a Saturday to deploy a software update to avoid downtime during business hours, you get, “There’s no comp time for that since you’re on salary. That’s why we pay you the big bucks!”

9.) It will be your fault when users make silly errors

Some users will angrily snap at you when they are frustrated. They will yell, “What’s wrong with this thing?” or “This computer is NOT working!” or (my personal favorite), “What did you do to the computers?” In fact, the problem is that they accidentally deleted the Internet Explorer icon from the desktop, or unplugged the mouse from the back of the computer with their foot, or spilled their coffee on the keyboard.

8.) You will go from goat to hero and back again multiple times within any given day

When you miraculously fix something that had been keeping multiple employees from being able to work for the past 10 minutes — and they don’t realize how simple the fix really was — you will become the hero of the moment and everyone’s favorite employee. But they will conveniently forget about your hero anointment a few hours later when they have trouble printing because of a network slowdown — you will be enemy No. 1 at that moment. But if you show users a handy little Microsoft Outlook trick before the end of the day, you’ll soon return to hero status.

7.) Certifications won’t always help you become a better technologist, but they can help you land a better job or a pay raise

Headhunters and human resources departments love IT certifications. They make it easy to match up job candidates with job openings. They also make it easy for HR to screen candidates. You’ll hear a lot of veteran IT pros whine about techies who were hired based on certifications but who don’t have the experience to effectively do the job. They are often right. That has happened in plenty of places. But the fact is that certifications open up your career options. They show that you are organized and ambitious and have a desire to educate yourself and expand your skills. If you are an experienced IT pro and have certifications to match your experience, you will find yourself to be extremely marketable. Tech certifications are simply a way to prove your baseline knowledge and to market yourself as a professional. However, most of them are not a good indicator of how good you will be at the job.

6.) Your nontechnical co-workers will use you as personal tech support for their home PCs

Your co-workers (in addition to your friends, family, and neighbors) will view you as their personal tech support department for their home PCs and home networks. They will e-mail you, call you, and/or stop by your office to talk about how to deal with the virus that took over their home PC or the wireless router that stopped working after the last power outage and to ask you how to put their photos and videos on the Web so their grandparents in Iowa can view them. Some of them might even ask you if they can bring their home PC to the office for you to fix it. The polite ones will offer to pay you, but some of them will just hope or expect you can help them for free. Helping these folks can be very rewarding, but you have to be careful about where to draw the line and know when to decline. For help, take a look at TechRepublic’s free download “Ten ways to decline a request for free tech support.”

5.) Vendors and consultants will take all the credit when things work well and will blame you when things go wrong

Working with IT consultants is an important part of the job and can be one of the more challenging things to manage. Consultants bring niche expertise to help you deploy specialized systems, and when everything works right, it’s a great partnership. But you have to be careful. When things go wrong, some consultants will try to push the blame off on you by arguing that their solution works great everywhere else so it must be a problem with the local IT infrastructure. Conversely, when a project is wildly successful, there are consultants who will try to take all of the credit and ignore the substantial work you did to customize and implement the solution for your company.

4.) You’ll spend far more time babysitting old technologies than implementing new ones

One of the most attractive things about working in IT is the idea that we’ll get to play with the latest cutting edge technologies. However, that’s not usually the case in most IT jobs. The truth is that IT professionals typically spend far more time maintaining, babysitting, and nursing established technologies than implementing new ones. Even IT consultants, who work with more of the latest and greatest technologies, still tend to work primarily with established, proven solutions rather than the real cutting edge stuff.

3.) Veteran IT professionals are often the biggest roadblock to implementing new technologies

A lot of companies could implement more cutting edge stuff than they do. There are plenty of times when upgrading or replacing software or infrastructure can potentially save money and/or increase productivity and profitability. However, it’s often the case that one of the largest roadblocks to migrating to new technologies is not budget constraints or management objections; it’s the veteran techies in the IT department. Once they have something up and running, they are reluctant to change it. This can be a good thing because their jobs depend on keeping the infrastructure stable, but they also use that as an excuse to not spend the time to learn new things or stretch themselves in new directions. They get lazy, complacent, and self-satisfied.

2.) Some IT professionals deploy technologies that do more to consolidate their own power than to help the business

Another subtle but blameworthy thing that some IT professionals do is select and implement technologies based on how well those technologies make the business dependent on the IT pros to run them, rather than which ones are truly best for the business itself. For example, IT pros might select a solution that requires specialized skills to maintain instead of a more turnkey solution. Or an IT manager might have more of a Linux/UNIX background and so chooses a Linux-based solution over a Windows solution, even though the Windows solution is a better business decision (or, vice versa, a Windows admin might bypass a Linux-based appliance, for example). There are often excuses and justifications given for this type of behavior, but most of them are disingenuous.

1.) IT pros frequently use jargon to confuse nontechnical business managers and hide the fact that they screwed up

All IT pros — even the very best — screw things up once in a while. This is a profession where a lot is at stake and the systems that are being managed are complex and often difficult to integrate. However, not all IT pros are good at admitting when they make a mistake. Many of them take advantage of the fact that business managers (and even some high-level technical managers) don’t have a good understanding of technology, and so the techies will use jargon to confuse them (and cover up the truth) when explaining why a problem or an outage occurred. For example, to tell a business manager why a financial application went down for three hours, the techie might say, “We had a blue screen of death on the SQL Server that runs that app. Damn Microsoft!” What the techie would fail to mention was that the BSOD was caused by a driver update he applied to the server without first testing it on a staging machine.

A Shitty Melody?

Ever had a melody being sung during your certain moods and it clicks so well till you're even amazed with it?

Apparently this just happened to me yesterday. These things do happens but it only happens once in a blue moon and you would probably have to wait another long while before it happens again. I have these situations very often though... But this incident happened to me which was weird, funny and most of all, twice in a day!!

You know some office buildings, you have these soft speaking embedded to your ceiling playing music from the radio or some CDs? Our office have this system as well but it's mostly tuned to a radio station called Light and Easy. It usually plays those oldies and light tunes to sooth your already stressed day at work.

Case 1:

I was very busy in the morning, well usually I would be busy in the morning as people will ask of me to do something or probably even some system or server is acting up. I wouldn't have much time to talk or even do any of my personal stuff like checking emails, facebooks or so on. :p

OK As I was saying, it's a usual routine that I would go to the washroom to do my "business" in the morning. I was so stressed and busy till the extent where it even wouldn't allow me to get my daily "business" done. So after completing my job, all worn out from work in the morning session, I stole some time off to do what I NEED to do.

As I was half way there, sitting down on the toilet seat, taking a dump while smoking my stress away, there I heard this song, the song where the radio was playing over the ceiling...

Feelings - Engelbert Humperdinck

Here goes the Lyrics...

Feelings.....nothing more than feelings....
Trying to forget my....my feelings of LOOOVEEE~~~

I was like WTF?! I'm already FEELING stressed out and then this song kicks in to boost my FEELINGS~! I was already almost on my edge when this song really kicks in to add spice to the mood =.="

Case 2:

This also happened the very same day except it's during the evening. I'm not sure whether is it the food or something but my stomach was aching like a wild monkey beating on drums...

I gushed to the toilet, in a very panicky way, trying to remove my pants as fast as I could but you know, the faster you try to do it, the harder it is for you to take it off...then I heard....

And the lyric goes....

Step by step... OOoohh Baby....

I was like Dammit!! Can't a man take a dump in peace??!!

First Attempt on Operation Quit Smoking

Ever heard of Nicotine Patches? Apparently it's suppose to give you the nicotine you need for the day hence you don't need to smoke for the rest of the period where the patch is on you. Honestly, I was kinda skeptical about the whole idea where you just stick something up your arm or chest and then you don't need to smoke for the said hours as long as the patch is on you. Guess what? I got myself one just to try it out.

Photobucket

Guess what? that one bloody thing costs me RM10.30. and it only lasts for like 16 hours. C'mon!!! RM10 for only 16 hours?? Smoking up a pack is like only RM8.20 and it can last me for like 2-3 days. I'm calling this a really big rip off!! But oh well, It's an experiment so I'm giving this thing a try...

1st Hour

Photobucket

Photobucket

I know I know.... I look cute...Jealous right? :p

Photobucket

Yes I'm still cute. Ignore the tattoo coz it's not real. I photoshopped it. wahaha...

Photobucket

While waiting for the process to take effect, I decided to watch a movie and see how time flies with this patch.

3rd Hour

Photobucket

I still can take it without smokes....

5th Hour

Photobucket

YES I'm still in the GAME!

8th Hour

Photobucket

Yes I'm bored and I have nothing better to do. Hence I had a short nap just to waste time away. Call it cheating but I'm BORED!!!

12th Hour

Photobucket

Seriously, I still have not felt like smoking. And yes I'm still lazing around my bed doing nothing at all. This is how bored I was.... =.="

16th Hour

Photobucket

HELP!!!! I CAN'T TAKE IT ANYMORE.....

Photobucket

Photobucket

AAAAAHHHHH.....THIS FEELS LIKE HEAVEN...
All in all, the patch works. It is a little expensive though but then hey if you really wanna quit smoking, I'm sure with consistency and some determination it would work. What about me you ask? hmm.... I'll work on it soon enough :p

A Twist of Look?

As most of you know, I have long hair and well I look look a little matured for my age. Hence I decided to keep my hair long until of late. Recently I've became weird and thought to myself I should cut my hair short just to see what comes out of it. Wanna know what's the difference???

Photobucket
I look like this, a cool, macho, long haired freak. Some people may call it ugly some people make turn their heads to get a glimpse to see who I am, Some even felt I SHOULD CUT MY HAIR SHORT.

But.....

Evolution has begun.....

Recordedmoments Presents....

Photobucket

Know what? My gf laughed at me sooooo much when she saw me on webcam today. Well she's not the only one, even my friends were like OMG!!!!!

Now I look even younger. Yesterday when I had long hair, I went to had chili's for lunch and ordered Baileys. Guess what happened? THE FRIGGIN WAITER CAME OVER AND ASKED ME FOR MY ID. Maybe I look young so he thought I was under aged. Some people would feel offended when they were asked to present their ID card. But me? I laughed my ass off coz of that incident.

As of now, with this new hair cut, I bet there would be so much more others thinking I'm either 19 or 20 years old now. Should I take it as a compliment or an insult?? I don't know just yet but soon to find out! wahahahaha

I noticed something weird. I look ridiciously like L. Wanna know

Photobucket
This is L on the Right side of the picture.

Photobucket
This is me.... =.=" All I need is a series make up of eye liner and I'm all good

Photobucket
P/S: I blame it on the absinth Eileen got for me from Germany. :p

Stupid SPAM

I think Advertlets.com is dead. Someone has not been paying for the webhosting therefore I think they have ermmm... bankrupt? LOL

As some of you may know, trying to access to my blog for the past few days is a freaking hassle. It keeps getting ported to http://www.advertlets.com/ website. =.=" I raised an issue with blogger.com but I found out the solution before they could give me one. LOL

What I did??? Just friggin remove the advertlets ads from your blog! EASY!! Don't worry about your earnings from that site though, You ain't getting any from them! HAHA somehow I personally feel it's a waste of time to sign up with Advertlets.com You people should feel the same way too. Well, I do know a few who felt like that.

Anyways, I have no particular choice in posting anything, so I'm gonna end this entry with a short video conversation I got off from youtube.com. Jason, Kurt, Kif, Nicole and I were talking about it last night at dinner and DAMN it was hilarious to bring back this video's memory! So without further or do, let me present to you.........

Biggest Burger in the City!

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

Wow.... Finally, after long anticipation, Carl's Junior had finally opened its first franchise in Mid Valley. I've been wanting to eat that burger for a long long time. Last I had it was when I was in the States. Man those burgers are out to kill!

Those burgers indeed are huge. Crazy. Any normal Asian girls would not be able to finish them. Well I'm only saying those girls who order a plate of rice and can only able to finish half of it, Trust be, you need another partner to finish the whole set.

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

I ordered this Double Western Cheese Burger... Damn it taste so good. The burger was huge till they had to cut it to half so it would be easier for me to hold the damn thing. Wahahaha

Price wise I think it's rather expensive. But hey it's twice the size of McDonalds so I think it's fair enough coz it costs twice the price of McD.... Definitely a hearty meal. I personally would wanna label Carl's Jr. The Best FastFood Chain in Malaysia. Kudos Kudos...

    Side Note:

Somehow I just love English. A friend and I had a MSN conversation and here's how it goes...

Me: Wow your DP (display picture) looks nice.
Girl: Yea, I seldom take pictures of myself.
Me: Well, we're almost alike. I suck at camwhoring. (some of you people knows that as a fact) I can't camwhore to save my life.
Girl: I suck in front of camera....
    Me: o.O???? Wahahahahahahahahahaha

I can't stop laughing the whole night I tell ya...Damn that was the best joke I've ever heard!!

    English Grammar

English is a very weird form of language. In 1 wrong twist of word or even grammar, the whole sentence will literally get screwed.. Don't believe me?? Try these few scenarios...

    Case Study 1:

Girl: Today I came in to office today and I got a bit wet.
Me: Huh?!! O.o?? Do you know it sounded wrong when you said that?
Girl: I know it sounded funny but I don't understand what does it mean. But I know if you look at me that way means it's something perverted.
Me: =.=" (yes she is THAT innocent)

    Case Study 2:

Ron: Does your son love dinosaurs?
Boss: Yes. That is the only thing he talks about.
Ron: What would you say? I bring him to the museum of natural history after opening hours. Just the both of us and he can touch anything he wants and do anything he likes there.
    Boss: O.o?!!!
Ron: I just heard what you heard but it sounded wrong somewhere...Let me start over. I'm a paleontologist. I work in the museum. I could bring your son around to see the museum and touch the fossils and the bones there after opening hours
    Boss: *Sigh of relief*

Moral of the story is BE WATCHFUL WHEN YOU SPEAK ENGLISH. Make sure you speak them correctly as it may turn out into a disaster. You wouldn't want that when you're going on a hot date now would you?

    True Defination of Quitting Alcohol

This particular joke apparently won an award for the best joke
    competition organized in Britain

Banta Singh walks into a bar in London and ordered 3-glasses of beer and sits in the back of the room, drinking a sip out of each one in turn. When he finishes, he comes back to the bar counter and orders 3 more. The bartender asks him,

"You know, beer goes flat after I fill it in the glass; it would taste better if you buy one at a time."

Banta Singh replies, "Well, you see, I have two brothers. One is in Dubai, the other in Canada and I'm here in London . When they left home, we promised that we'll drink this way to remember the days when we drank together."

The bartender admits that this is a nice custom and leaves it there. Banta Singh became a regular in the bar, and always drinks the same way. He orders 3-Beers and drinks them in turn.

One day, he came in and ordered only 2-Beers. All the other regulars notice and fall silent. When he comes back to the bar for the second round, the bartender says, "I don't want to intrude on your grief, but I wanted to offer my sincere condolences on your great loss."

Banta Singh looked confused for a moment, then he laughs .... "Oh, no." he, said, "Everyone's fine - both my brothers are alive. The only thing is ........................... I just quit drinking!!!"
